4" Rocket Heater Barrel Build Kit

  • Here is a top plate painted bark brown metallic and a divider plate painted black. The round white gasket fits underneath a 30 gallon barrel; it prevents the exhaust gases from escaping into the room. Gaskets on both sides of the divider plate also divide the exhaust gases from the incoming air for combustion around the burn tunnel.
  • This is the divider plate and the 4 gaskets which come with it.
  • The kit includes 2 of these; one for each side of the barrel. The latches are attached to the firebrick surface (not the tile) using concrete penetrating screws. They catch the rim of the barrel and prevent the barrel from being unintentionally knocked out of place.
  • Here is the top plate installed on a 4" heater
  • A 4" combustion system used in this build. You can burn from 15,000 to 20,000 BTU's per hour in this unit.
  • A 4" Barrel Build. The steel drum and metal plates have been painted brown with hi-temp paint.

Product Description

This kit includes -

  • 4" Dragon Burner with burn tunnel, heat riser, feed tube and gaskets
  • A DVD with an instructional video, PDF, and Sketchup drawing on how to build the tiled stove
  • plans for the 4" tiled stove
  • pre-cut and painted (black) steel top plate
  • divider plate (used to separate exhaust gasses from the air to be used in combustion)
  • circular ceramic fiber gasket to go between the barrel and the top plate
  • Stainless Steel Draw Latches attached to base to keep the barrel from being knocked over

The gasket material creates a seal between the steel of the barrel and the steel of the top plate. Some additional strips are provided for the divider plate. This plate separates the air in the combustion chamber from the exhaust from the burn.

The basic design uses concrete blocks for the straight walls and a curved section to accommodate the barrel. The curved section can be done by cutting many small fireclay bricks or purchasing the Barrel Supports. Do not use any form of cement or regular mortar with the barrel supports.

Additional items you will have to acquire for this build:

  • 30 gallon steel drum
  • CMU's (concrete masonry units) 16" x 8" x 4" thick (available at home improvement stores
  • Mortar for CMU's
